On THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, we will be showing “Jesus Camp” (2006) at the South Portland Community Center. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the film, which runs 84 minutes, begins at 6:30 p.m. As usual, admission is free, but donations are always welcome to cover snacks.
Filmed during the Senate confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito and nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary in 2007, Jesus Camp is a team project of documentary team Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady. It depicts children’s activities at “Kids on Fire,” a Penecostal summer camp run by Ms. Fischer and other evangelical Christians in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, and explores Ms. Fischer’s highly effective methods of mobilizing children to become soldiers in “God’s Army.”
