Over 50 years ago, the Maine Legislature hired a consulting firm to analyze the state’s education system. The findings, known as the Jacobs Report, determined that our state was not spending money effectively and that schools should join together to share costs and resources. Following the report and lengthy debate, the Maine Legislature passed the Sinclair Law in 1957, which led to the formation of the school district system that exists today.
