    Democratic Gubernatorial Forums Continue in South Portland on Thursday, March 4

    Following a successful first forum on February 4, preparations are underway for the second in a series of four meetings of the Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates here in South Portland.

    As a live audience that nearly filled the council chambers looked on, gubernatorial hopefuls Donna Dion, Pat McGowan, Libby Mitchell, John Richardson, Steve Rowe, and Rosa Scarcelli all participated in the February forum that focused on Job Creation. The next forum will detail some of the broader challenges facing Maine’s economy.

    Wellstone Film Series Continues with "My Kid Could Paint That" on Thursday, Feb. 25

    Our next documentary showing for the Paul Wellstone Documentary Series will be on Thursday evening, February 25 in the Teen Room at the South Portland Community Center. “My Kid Could Paint That” (2007) runs 83 minutes, so we will start the film as usual at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, though donations are always welcome.

    “My Kid Could Paint That” deals with controversial subject matter, the perplexing case of Marla Olmstead, who at four years old was producing abstract paintings selling for thousands of dollars.

    Democrats Hear From Candidates and Elect Convention Delegates at SoPo Dems Caucus

    Democrats from South Portland gathered to caucus at the Memorial Middle School on Sunday, January 31. The convener and chair of the caucus was Sen. Larry Bliss. Rep. Bryan Kaenrath, Rep. Jane Eberle, and Rep. Terry Morrison also participated in the caucus.

    In spite of the cold weather, about 40 Democrats conducted party business and heard from a major gubernatorial candidate and from representatives for two others.

    SoPo Democrats Prepare for Caucus on Sunday, Jan. 31 from 1 - 3 p.m.

    Sunday, January 31, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., we’ll be holding the South Portland 2010 Democratic Caucus at Memorial Middle School at 120 Wescott Road. It’s our opportunity to elect delegates and alternates to the Maine Democratic State Convention at the Colisee in Lewiston on May 21 & 22. It’s also a great place to meet some of the Democratic candidates for Governor, chat with other South Portland Democrats and talk to our local legislative leaders. Other important party business will be conducted. This year’s caucus will be convened by Senator Larry Bliss.

    Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Talk Jobs at South Portland City Hall on Thursday, February 4

    The South Portland Democratic City Committee has scheduled a series of four candidates’ forums for Democratic hopefuls in the race for Governor of Maine. The first forum is set for Thursday evening, February 4th at 7:00 in the council chambers at South Portland City Hall (25 Cottage Road, South Portland). All four gubernatorial forums are open to the public and will be broadcast live over SPCTV-Channel 2. 

    Donna Dion, Pat McGowan, Libby Mitchell, John Richardson, Steve Rowe, Rosa Scarcelli and Peter Truman have already confirmed that they will participate in the first forum on February 4th.
